McDonalds China is giving away 188 NFTs on their 31st anniversary. Extraordinary of course, since the Chinese government is not very fond of crypto and therefore probably not of NFTs either. Very nice of course, such a “Big Mac Rubik’s Cube” non fungible token.
The NFT of McDonalds
So McDonalds China is going to give away 188 Big Mac Rubik’s Cube NFTs on their 31st anniversary. They will be giving them away to Chinese employees and customers as part of a giveaway.
So only 188 will be given away and that means the NFT is quite rare. There is a good chance that it will be worth a lot. The NFT has a special appearance. It is based on the three-dimensional structure of the new Chinese headquarters of McDonalds.
The NFTs are built on the Confluux blockchain and were created in collaboration with Cocafe, an agency that specializes in creating digital assets. They say they ensure that “each work is unique, cannot be chopped up, and most importantly, cannot be tampered with.”
What is striking is that a large portion of McDonalds China’s shares are owned by the CITIC Group, an investment company owned by the Chinese government. So this makes it extra striking, since this same Chinese government is not a fan of crypto at all and has already banned Bitcoin, for example, several times. That they are thus indirectly cooperating in an NFT collection most probably did not expect.
In fact, the Chinese government is so against crypto that some of the largest Chinese crypto companies have indicated to go out of business. For example, Huobi, one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, will stop serving Chinese customers at the end of this year.
